Is there a way to remove Meta AI from Facebook?

Meta AI features keep popping up in my Facebook app and it’s getting annoying. I can’t figure out how to turn it off or hide it. Has anyone found a solution for removing or disabling Meta AI on Facebook? I’d really appreciate advice or step-by-step instructions if possible.

So here’s the deal, you can’t actually get rid of Meta AI from Facebook at this point. I know, not what anyone wants to hear, but Meta’s gone all in on their AI features across their apps (FB, Messenger, IG), and there’s no official “off” switch. You can try to minimize its presence by avoiding the search bar (that’s where it pops up a lot) or skipping interaction with AI-labeled responses, but it’ll still be living there like an uninvited guest at your party. Some people suggest switching to an older version of the app, but that usually breaks more stuff than it fixes and you lose out on security updates. If you’re techy, you can try third-party wrappers or Facebook Lite, but even those are starting to get the AI sprinkled in.

At the end of the day, unless Meta changes course due to user backlash (which, let’s be honest, probably won’t happen anytime soon), the AI’s not going anywhere. So it’s either get used to ignoring it, or start using Facebook less, which, considering how things are going, isn’t the worst idea ever. If anyone miraculously finds a solid workaround or an actual off switch, I think half the internet would want to know. But as it stands, we’re all just stuck with it for now.

Honestly, it feels like we’re living in the Age of Unskippable AI and Meta just plopped their chatbot in every possible nook and cranny of Facebook, like glitter you can’t ever get off your carpet. Can you actually remove it? Short answer: nope. I saw @yozora already explained the “no off switch” situation, and as annoying as it is, they’re right. Meta’s determined to shove AI down our throats.

I do wanna add though, there’s a bit of a hackier route: on the desktop version, if you use browser extensions like uBlock Origin or custom CSS, you may be able to visually hide some AI elements (like the AI search box) by blocking them with filters. Doesn’t actually “turn it off” (AI’s still loitering in the back end) but at least you won’t see it up front. Feels kinda like duck taping over a blinking light, but hey, sometimes janky solutions are the only solutions.

Also, if you’re feeling bold, give feedback directly to Meta every time it pops up—there is a “give feedback” option buried in some AI features. Maybe if enough people spam them, they’ll let us at least minimize or hide it one day. Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

Some folks swear by Facebook Lite, but as yozora mentioned, Meta’s AI creep is real and even Lite is slowly getting infested.

So yeah, for now, it’s either learn to tune out the AI, rage-quit Facebook, or keep playing whack-a-mole with tiny hacks. Cheers to hoping for an opt-out one day, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
